| This is our master bedroom. The walk-in closet is to the right and the door leading to the master bathroom is just left of center. You can't see it in this shot but there is a lanai off camera to the left that looks out onto our front yard. On clear days we will have really nice views of both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. There are 13 world class astronomical optical and radio telescopes up on the peak of Mauna Kea, and you can actually see three of them from our house. Of course, that means they can see us, so I guess we'd better keep the bedroom blinds closed. | |

The inside of the master bath. Notice how everything inside is covered with paper and plastic. They use paint sprayers for both inside and out, so a lot of time was spent covering everything that you did not want to be the color white. |

Big changes in only 6 days! The whole master suite was painted light blue, and the bathroom cabinets were partially installed. You also get a better view of the whirlpool bath at the back. That will be covered with cobalt blue bath tiles soon. The painters have finished, so it's safe to take the coverings off everything. The plywood floor is a bit of a mess due to the painting, but it will be covered by floor tiles soon, anyway, so everything's hiki no (all right). |

Big progress on the kitchen, too. The sink and dishwasher will be to the right, the range and microwave to the left, and the refrigerator straight ahead to the left of the door. We were hoping to have cabinets made of Koa, an indigenous tree that has gorgeous hard wood, but it was just too pricey. Mango wood is also beautiful, but it's nearly as expensive. In the end, we used African Mahogany, which looks a lot like Koa but is a fraction of the cost. |
